Pau D'Arco Bark 500 mg in Vegicaps 100's
$7.95
Cure-all or not, there is Insufficient Evidence to Rate the Effectiveness of Pau D’Arco for many uses including yeast infections, common cold, flu, diarrhea, bladder and prostate infections, intestinal worms, cancer, diabetes, ulcers, stomach problems, liver problems, asthma, bronchitis, arthritis-like pain, sexually transmitted diseases (gonorrhea, syphilis), and boils.
Lapachol, the active ingredient of Pau D’Arco, is thought to be responsible for increasing the risk of bleeding by prolonging prothrombin time. Its effects on clotting are reversible by vitamin K. Concomitant use with herbs that have constituents that might affect platelet aggregation could theoretically increase the chance of bleeding in some people. These herbs include alfalfa, angelica, clove, danshen, horse chestnut, red clover, turmeric, and others. Preliminary data suggests that lapachol also has anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, and immunomodulatory activity. Some evidence suggests that lapachol is active against sarcomas, but at potentially effective levels, adverse effects are severe enough to prevent its use for that indication.
Doses of Pau D'Arco providing greater than 1.5 grams per day of the lapachol constituent have been associated with toxic effects.
DOSE: One to three capsules by mouth daily. Take with food.
Contains wild-crafted bark of Tabebuia impetiginosa.
